Prayer & Qibla in Deen Coach

Accurate timings, 18 calculation methods, animated qibla and unobtrusive reminders.

A Prayer module built for precision and calm: geolocated timings, 18 calculation methods including 13 regional ones, explicit exclusion of the Tehran jaʿfarite method consistent with the Ahl al-Sunnah wa al-Jamāʿah methodology, animated qibla accurate to the degree, framed notifications, monthly calendar, regularity tracking, sunan ar-rawātib and a prayer learning guide.

Accurate geolocated timings

The five daily prayers are computed from your exact GPS position, with automatic updates when you travel. Geolocation stays local to the phone: no coordinate is sent to a server. The timings show the current day's minute-by-minute schedule and highlight the next prayer.

18 calculation methods: 5 historic + 13 regional

Five historic methods are available: Muslim World League (MWL), Islamic Society of North America (ISNA), Egyptian General Authority of Survey, Umm al-Qura University (Makkah), University of Islamic Sciences Karachi. Thirteen regional methods were added in version 1.0.0 build 9 to better reflect local practice: Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia, Jordan, Kuwait, Qatar, Gulf, Turkey, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Portugal, Russia.

  • Default method adapted automatically when the country changes.
  • Undo SnackBar to make the switch reversible.
  • Manual adjustment always possible in the settings.

Explicit exclusion of the Tehran jaʿfarite method

The jaʿfarite calculation method, specific to the Twelver Shia current and used notably by the Institute of Geophysics, University of Tehran, is not offered in Deen Coach. This exclusion is explicit and aligned with the methodology followed by the app: Ahl al-Sunnah wa al-Jamāʿah following the way of the Salaf al-Ṣāliḥ.

This exclusion is not intended to disparage individuals; it reflects the stated methodological scope of the project. Wa Allāhu aʿlam.

Animated qibla, accurate to the degree

The qibla compass orients in real time using the phone's magnetometer, with smooth animation and the exact bearing shown in degrees. The Makkah al-Mukarramah position is computed locally from your geolocation. If the magnetometer is not calibrated, the app suggests calibration gestures.

Calm and precise notifications

Prayer notifications are silent or audible at your choice, without gamification or insistent reminders. On Android, the Full Screen Intent format enables a full-screen display for users who want a strong reminder. Permissions are requested transparently and revocable at any time.

Monthly timings calendar

A monthly calendar displays the timings of the five prayers for every day of the month according to your location and calculation method. Useful to plan a move, a trip or a meeting in light of the timings.

Regularity tracking (streak)

An optional streak feature lets you track personal regularity of the five prayers over time. The goal is self-assessment, not competition: no leaderboard, no social sharing, no gamification. You remain the sole judge.

Sunan ar-rawātib

The sunan ar-rawātib (supererogatory prayers tied to the five obligatory prayers) are identified in the interface to recall their place in the Muslim's day. The number of rakaʿāt before and after each prayer is stated according to what is reported in the authentic Sunnah.

Prayer learning guide

A dedicated track in the Learning module covers the basics of prayer: preparation (wuḍūʾ), postures, what is said in each position, end of prayer. The content follows the authentic Sunnah methodology as understood by the Salaf and refers to the works of recognised scholars.
