Yes, Deen Coach is entirely free: no subscription, no in-app purchase, no premium tier, no advertising. The project is designed as a sadaqah jāriyah, that is, a work whose fruits keep benefiting beyond the lifetime of its initiators. No user behaviour is monetised, and no feature is locked behind payment. If you wish to support the project by a duʿāʾ for its contributors and for all Muslims who benefit from it, that counts more than anything else. Wa Allāhu aʿlam.

Does the app work without an internet connection?

Accepted Answer

Yes, Deen Coach is designed offline-first. The Quranic text, fonts, Ḥiṣn al-Muslim invocations, prayer timings, qibla, adhkar, Ḥifẓ module and the seventeen learning tracks all work without any connection. Only audio content (reciters, audio adhkar packs) is downloaded on demand from the app and then usable offline. You can use the app fully on a plane, while traveling, or in areas without coverage, respecting your carrier's constraints. No essential feature depends on a permanent connection.

How is the app updated?

Accepted Answer

Updates are published on the App Store and Google Play. When you open the dashboard, Deen Coach silently checks whether a new version is available and, if so, shows a non-intrusive bottom sheet offering "Later" or "Update". No forced automatic update, except in case of emergency (security or religious-content fix). The detailed release notes are published on deencoach.app/changelog. You stay in control: you can also check manually from Settings > About.

What is the size of the app on my phone?

The base install of Deen Coach contains the full Quranic text, the essential KFGQPC fonts, all 267 Ḥiṣn al-Muslim invocations, the seventeen learning tracks and the Ḥifẓ module. This base is intentionally compact. Audio packs (reciters, audio adhkar) and additional KFGQPC fonts (V1 1405H, V2 1421H, V4 with tajwid) are downloadable on demand, keeping a small initial footprint and downloading only what is useful to you. You can uninstall an audio pack from settings to free space.

On which platforms is Deen Coach available?

Deen Coach is available for free on iOS through the App Store and on Android through Google Play. Visit the Download page at deencoach.app/download/. There is no web version that would substitute the mobile app for the main features (reading, ḥifẓ, audio). The deencoach.app website remains a showcase, legal, and changelog site. A future desktop or web app is not planned in the short term.

What religious methodology does Deen Coach follow?

Deen Coach follows the methodology of Ahl al-Sunnah wa al-Jamāʿah, understood according to the way of the Salaf al-Ṣāliḥ (the first three generations: the Ṣaḥābah, the Tābiʿūn and the Atbāʿ al-Tābiʿīn). The accepted sources are, in order: the Noble Quran, the authentic Sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ (ṣaḥīḥ or ḥasan ḥadīths), Ijmāʿ (consensus, primarily that of the Companions) and Qiyās consistent with the texts. Which reference collections does Deen Coach use?

For ḥadīths, Deen Coach relies primarily on the six canonical collections (al-Kutub al-Sittah): Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī, Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim, Sunan Abī Dāwūd, Sunan al-Tirmidhī, Sunan al-Nasāʾī, Sunan Ibn Mājah. To these are added al-Muwaṭṭaʾ of imām Mālik ibn Anas and al-Musnad of imām Aḥmad ibn Ḥanbal. For tafsīr, references include the major tafsīrs recognised in the Ahl al-Sunnah tradition (Ibn Kathīr, al-Saʿdī). Every ḥadīth used is tied to its source collection with its authenticity grade indicated. No weak narration is used as proof of a religious ruling.

Among the contemporary ones: Shaykh Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Wahhāb, Shaykh ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz Ibn Bāz, Shaykh Muḥammad ibn Ṣāliḥ al-ʿUthaymīn, Shaykh Muḥammad Nāṣir ad-Dīn al-Albānī, Shaykh Ṣāliḥ al-Fawzān, as well as the fatāwā of the Lajnah al-Dāʾimah (Permanent Committee of Saudi Arabia). Consistent with the Ahl al-Sunnah wa al-Jamāʿah methodology following the way of the Salaf, Deen Coach explicitly excludes: innovated Sufi paths (ṭuruq) and practices contrary to the Sunnah (philosophical taṣawwuf, waḥdat al-wujūd, grave veneration, rhythmic collective dhikr not reported, belief in intermediaries with Allāh); Shīʿism as a whole (particularly rāfiḍiyya and ismāʿīliyya), because of the fundamental points it contradicts on tawḥīd, the status of the Ṣaḥābah and the methodology of sources; philosophical kalām when it contradicts taslīm to the texts; weak (ḍaʿīf) and fabricated (mawḍūʿ) narrations presented as proof of a ḥukm; cultural traditions without textual dalīl; religious innovations (bidʿah). Conversely, the Quranic and prophetic concepts of zuhd, tazkiyat al-nafs and iḥsān are not excluded: they are central.

The tone is one of peaceful transmission: gentleness, clarity, humility. Controversial topics are presented by mentioning the recognised positions of Ahl al-Sunnah scholars, and the user is systematically referred to a qualified scholar for a personal decision. Are my personal data collected or tracked?

No. Deen Coach uses no ad tracking tool, no commercial analytics SDK, no third-party solution that would collect your behaviour without your knowledge. The app has no user account, no advertising identifier, no profiling. The aggregated statistics we may look at to understand the project's health (via Cloudflare Web Analytics on the website, without cookies) are strictly anonymous and cannot be tied to an individual. This posture is central: you are the user of a project designed as a sadaqah jāriyah, not a product.

No. The deencoach.app website uses no session cookie, no advertising cookie, no analytics cookie. No consent banner is required because no identification data is placed on your browser. On the mobile app side, no web cookie is used; the personal data you generate (favorites, notes, Ḥifẓ progression, prayer sessions) is stored locally in the phone's database, never transmitted to a third-party server.

Where is my data stored in the app?

All your personal usage data is stored exclusively on your phone, in the app's local SQLite database (encrypted via native iOS Keychain and Android EncryptedSharedPreferences mechanisms for sensitive items). This covers your favorites, notes on verses, Ḥifẓ progression, prayer sessions, downloaded reciter choices, accessibility settings. No cloud sync is offered in V1, by choice of simplicity and maximum protection. Consequence: if you change phones or uninstall the app, this data is not restored.

How do I exercise my GDPR rights or contact the DPO?

For any request relating to data protection (access, rectification, deletion, objection, portability), write to the dedicated address dpo@deencoach.app. Since Deen Coach collects no personal data centrally (everything stays local on the phone), these rights are in practice exercised directly by you from the app: you can at any time clear the local database by uninstalling the app or using the reset option in Settings. For any legal question or interpretation, the DPO team responds within fifteen business days as required by GDPR.

The Prayer module offers eighteen calculation methods: five historic methods (Muslim World League, ISNA, Egyptian General Authority of Survey, Umm al-Qura University, University of Islamic Sciences Karachi) and thirteen regional methods added in 1.0.0 build 9 (Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia, Jordan, Kuwait, Qatar, Gulf, Turkey, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Portugal, Russia). The Tehran jaʿfarite method is explicitly excluded, consistent with the Ahl al-Sunnah methodology followed by the app. Timings are computed locally from your geolocation. The animated qibla gives the bearing accurate to the degree. Notifications are calm and customisable.

Which adhkar and invocations are included?

The Adhkar module embeds the entire Ḥiṣn al-Muslim by Shaykh Saʿīd ibn ʿAlī ibn Wahf al-Qaḥṭānī, that is 267 canonical invocations organised by chapter (morning adhkar, evening, after prescribed prayers, etc.), with vocalized Arabic text, transliteration, French and English translation, and source (Quran or ḥadīth with authenticity grade). The tactile counter helps track canonical repetitions, and downloadable audio packs let you listen to the correct pronunciation. Everything works offline.

How does the Hifz module work?

The Ḥifẓ module applies the adaptive Leitner system to Quran memorisation: verses are sorted into boxes by your mastery level, with optimised revision intervals (more frequent for weak verses, more spaced for solid ones). You also find a personal error journal, intelligent revision plans, guided sessions (listening, repetition, recall), surah-and-juz tracking, and a verse-first mode to intensify memorisation verse by verse. The module is complementary to follow-up with a qualified teacher and does not replace them, especially for pronunciation (makhārij al-ḥurūf) and tajwid.

Everything follows the Ahl al-Sunnah methodology following the way of the Salaf, with nominative referral to recognised scholars (Ibn Taymiyyah, Ibn al-Qayyim, Ibn Bāz, Ibn ʿUthaymīn, al-Albānī, al-Fawzān, etc.).

Do I need to create an account to use Deen Coach?

Accepted Answer

No. Deen Coach offers no user account in V1. You install the app and start using it immediately, with no registration, no email to provide, no password to remember, no phone number to verify. This absence of accounts is a choice of simplicity and protection: no user data to protect server-side, no risk of credentials leak. The consequence is that your data stays only on your phone.

What happens if I change phone?

Since there is no account or cloud sync in V1, your local data (favorites, notes, Ḥifẓ progression, validated learning tracks) is not automatically transferred to the new phone. You start fresh on the new device. This posture is deliberate: it guarantees that nothing about you is stored at our end. A local file-based export / import feature is under consideration for a future version, but it will never depend on a server account.

How do I delete all my data?

Accepted Answer

Two options. First option (the simplest): uninstall Deen Coach from your phone. All local data is deleted automatically by the operating system. Second option: open Settings > Data in the app and use the reset option to clear the database without uninstalling. Since no data is stored server-side, you have no further step to take. How do I report a bug or error?

To report a technical bug (the app crashes, a feature does not work as expected, a display is broken), write to contact@deencoach.app with: phone model, system version (iOS / Android), app version (visible in Settings > About), a precise description of the issue and, if possible, a screenshot. To report a religious content error (transliteration, reference, wording), specify the exact page or screen and the problematic wording: we take these reports very seriously and submit them to talib-al-ilm review.

How do you process reported bugs?

Every report is read, classified by criticality (blocker, major, minor, cosmetic) and scheduled in the release cycle. Blocker bugs (the app crashes, an essential feature is unavailable) are handled in priority with an emergency fix. Fixes are then published on the App Store and Google Play.
