Ḥifẓ: memorising the Quran

Allāh said in His Speech: « Wa laqad yassarnā al-Qurʾāna li-l-dhikr » (« And We have certainly made the Quran easy for remembrance »), repeated four times in sūrat al-Qamar (54:17, 22, 32, 40). Memorising the Quran has, since the time of the Prophet ﷺ and the Ṣaḥābah, been the foremost work of the bearers of the Book. This pillar gathers content dedicated to ḥifẓ: pedagogical methods transmitted from the early generations, progressive steps (learning to read, anchoring the short sūrahs, memorisation plan, systematic review), advice on tajwīd and the sonic quality of recitation, and managing the daily life of a ḥāfiẓ or ḥāfiẓah. The reference transmission is Ḥafṣ ʿan ʿĀṣim via al-Shāṭibiyyah, the most widespread in the contemporary Muslim world. The articles refer back to time-tested pedagogies (al-Qāʿidah al-Nūrāniyyah for beginners), recognised recitations (Shaykh Maḥmūd Khalīl al-Ḥuṣarī in particular), classical works on qirāʾāt (al-Nashr fī al-qirāʾāt al-ʿashr by Ibn al-Jazarī), and contemporary reference works in tajwīd (Shaykh Ayman Suwayd).
